Street food is the staple across Asia and the heart of the gastronomic identity of Kuching. Our hawkers have been perfecting their family dishes over several generations, some born here in Sarawak and others carried from overseas in the heart of family and then recreated in the environment of Borneo. We have indigenous offerings, drawn direct from the jungle. We have traditional dishes from every dialect group, preserved here but lost at home. We have original inventions, blending local ingredients with ideas from other cultures.

Street food serves because it is entirely egalitarian. Our kopitiam are the best meeting place. If you have a great recipe, you can open a stall. If it is good, the people will come.
